Misery in a Mass Grave

Drought came through about a year ago
Then came the sicknesses
Bodies piled up before I could know
Then came the weaknesses
Misery in a mass grave
December came in wit h a scant whimper
Marred by the loss we all felt
We all thought it would be so simple
Instead we are all so unwell
Misery in a mass grave
A disappointed few begin to weep
As plagues come through one by one
Been too long since we could see
The rays of the burning sun
Misery in a mass grave
Sadness for your troubles
Too late to be saved
As the depth of our pit doubles
Overdramatic, crying through the rot
The warmth we feel isn't comforting
Bodies added, more often than not
It's worse than you're imagining
Misery in a mass grave
Oblivious to the rhyme
The dreams that we all gave
Are lost to all time

I see them when I open my eyes
I still feel them when they're gone
I think it's time I realized
They're not even there at all
cold morning air at my window
the sun will soon pierce the sky
they're not here with me, I should know
how can I trust my eyes?
feels like I'm losing touch with reality
ghost stories always on my mind
wonder if what I see is really me
playing tricks of a different kind
insane the lack of sleep is taking me
on a dark path I don't want to go
awake, I start to question my humanity
is this real, I would like to know
